WHERE CAN I FIND A TOPIC?
With informative topics...the sky is the limit. Just about anything can be made into an informative speech. However, what I would consider competitive is a little more limited. However, I do think there are some general guidelines that can be applied to any topic to give it the test of competitiveness:
1. Your informative topic must have far-reaching implications, meaning that the topic has to affect life in some major way (For example: The topic of black hair, at first glance may not seem interesting enough, but a lot of information can be found about how the stigmatization of black hair has led to the oppression of an entire group...BAM! Now you have a reason to listen)
2. Your informative topic must have a "Hmmmm" or a "Wow" moment. At the end of the day, your speech needs to intrigue and interest me. You cannot give me information I already knew. Your topic must challenge and enlighten me.
3. Your informative topic must be specific enough that it has direction, but not too specific that it confuses the audience.
