How to Join the Team

Joining our team is a rather easy process. ANYONE CAN JOIN! 

The options of joining are listed below.

OPTION #1: Enroll in Competitive Interpretation (Course 6330)

This class is specifically for students who wish to enhance and grow their acting and interpretation skills. Students taking this class will learn how to do the various acting events in the world of speech and debate, including Humorous Interpretation, Dramatic Interpretation, DUO Interpretation, Prose Reading, Poetry Reading, Storytelling, and Program Interpretation! Don't worry...if you join this class and don't want to debate...you won't have to! Counts as the REQUIRED FINE ARTS CREDIT.

OPTION #2: Enroll in Competitive Speech & Debate (Course 6331)

This class is specifically for students who wish to enhance and grow their public speaking and debate skills. Students taking this class will learn how to develop compelling and persuasive arguments surrounding various topics. Students in this class will also learn how to do persuasive and informative speeches. Overall, students will dive deeply into current events and learn how to form educated opinions on a variety of topics. Don't worry...if you join the class and don't want to do acting...you won't have to! Counts as the REQUIRED FINE ARTS CREDIT.

OPTION #3: Enroll in Zero Hour (Either Course 6330 and 6331)

This course can be taken FOR CREDIT or FOR NO CREDIT. The class was created with the student athlete and AP students in mind, as this class takes place before the regularly-scheduled school day. The class goes from 7:30 am to 8:20 am. Any student can enroll to take this course. Students will either choose to develop their acting skills or public speaking/debate skills. This course, if taken for credit, counts as the student's REQUIRED FINE ARTS CREDIT.

What Does Involvement Look Like?

Compete in at least SIX of the ELEVEN Regularly-Scheduled Competitions.

Regularly practice and work on your performances at home

Attend two 1.5 hour practices after-school each week.

Regularly reflect on the comments from your judges and make improvements.

Be self-managed. Each person is doing something else, and your individual growth is dependent on you.

Follow MSHSAA Student Activity Policies and be a good representative of JCHS always.
